What would Unity Days be without weather issues? PART 2
The day began honoring the newest members of the Gold Residents - those individuals who have lived in Mayfield Heights for 50+ years. Lunch was served and memories were shared. Friday night the rides began, as well as the bocce tournament. Two bands performed to a rain soaked crowd; Shout! at the main tent and the Doug Kaufman Band at the bocce courts. Both were well received by the crowds.
Saturday was much of the same, copying Friday's weather. With overcast skies the crowds came and explored the rides, inflatables, and games. They were wowed by Jungle Terry, Dr. U R Awesome and the Rockin' Robots; and they danced to tunes from the Country Reign Band all they way until fireworks. The Citizen of the Year was presented to Fred Kramer as friends and family cheered on. Those who stayed stated these were the best fireworks that we've had in quite some time.
Sunday saw the weather finally cooperate. The parade route was back to its normal starting spot. Starting with Parade Marshal 92.3 The Fan's Andy Baskin until the last unit to get back to Golden Gate Shopping Center, the parade provided music, waves and of course lots of candy. Back in the park, the bocce tournament was coming to a conclusion, while the Chardon Polka Band was jamming away in the main tent. Lines were long for the inflatables, balloon twister, and caricaturist artist. The night and weekend was capped off with the big raffle winner announcements.
The City of Mayfield Heights Parks and Recreation thanks everyone for coming and we will get to work on bringing a great Unity Days to you again in the future!
