Issue 9 - Earned income tax increase makes improvements possible!
The City of Mayfield Heights proposed a plan to revitalize city parks, repair roads, and sidewalks, and replace the outdated and dilapidated pool with a new community pool. Per a November 25, 2019, City Council vote, a 0.5% earned income tax increase was placed before voters on the March 2020 ballot. The 0.5% income tax was affirmed by voters.
The proposed earned income tax issue resulted from extensive community outreach conducted by the City's Parks & Recreation Department. The outreach included a comprehensive engagement study in which citizens expressed a desire for an upgraded recreation facility and a community that is attractive for young families.
Promised projects were underway immediately after Issue 9's passage. Complete reconstruction of Genesee Avenue began this summer. The sidewalk program began in early October. A pool, parks, and recreation research project was conducted to solicit feedback from the community on their vision for new and improved recreational facilities. Based on the survey results, the preliminary, conceptual site plan phase for the pool and community center is underway!
