1. What are the hours of the Recycling Center?

The Recycling Center located in the parking lot of the Ross C. DeJohn Community Center (6306 Marsol Rd) is open during the following hours:

Mondays & Wednesdays (Updated 9/16/19)
6:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Saturdays
6:00 AM -11:00 AM 

PLEASE NOTE: You must be a resident of Mayfield Heights only. You may be required to show proof of residency.

2. Which holidays will delay my garbage pickup?

Some holidays may delay your garbage pickup for a day. For example, Thanksgiving, which is on a Thursday will instead be picked up on Friday, and Friday's route will become Saturday's. These holidays include: Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, Labor Day, Fourth Of July, Thanksgiving, and Memorial Day. Sometimes, weather may also effect or cause a delay in pickup.

3. What can I do with my branch chippings?

Tree limbs, branches and brush may be left at the curb for the chipper truck on your regular trash collection day. The chipper truck follows that schedule. There is no need to cut, bundle or tie these items, simply place them on your tree-lawn for pick up

4. How can I get a new tree planted on my tree-lawn? Or have my current one trimmed or taken down?

All you would have to do is fill out our Request A Tree form and let us know which service you are looking for! PLEASE NOTE: New tree planting is SUSPENDED until FALL 2018 (weather permitting). We have met our current quota of trees and will resume at a later date. You may still request a new tree during this time and be added to our list. Your patience is appreciated.

5. Which items can and canNOT be recycled?

6. Can I put my old washer/dryer/refrigerator or my mattress out on the treelawn to be thrown out?

You can put any large item out on your tree-lawn the night before your designated garbage day to be picked up. As of January 2021, Kimble will now be picking up any bulk items. For any questions, concerns, or if there are any issues, please call Kimble directly at 1-800-201-0005.

7. Why weren't my leaves picked up?

In the fall, the leaf crews work diligently to get each street done one at a time. The trucks will go around each street once before going back again. It will also help to make sure any vehicles are not parked in front of your pile. We would also appreciate it if the piles are raked neatly onto the tree lawn and NOT in the street. Tall grass must also be placed into a brush pile, as it will clog the machine.

As a reminder, there is NO leaf collection program in the Spring. Our refuse collection contractor gladly accepts leaves that are bagged and left out on your regular trash collection day

8. What should I do if the CITY truck driver knocked over my mailbox?

Sometimes this may happen on accident when there is a lot of snow or slush being plowed to the side of the road. Snow shields may help in these situations. Please fill out our Request Mailbox Replacement Form and we will put up a temporary replacement as soon as the weather breaks. Once the weather cooperates we will be able to put up a permanent mailbox. Please note however, this does not apply to plow drivers doing your driveway.

9. Which sidewalks get plowed in the winter?

The city maintains over 16 miles of sidewalks along school routes, in the retail district, and at city-owned facilities. Sidewalk clearing operations are secondary to the plowing of roadways. The City of Mayfield Heights Codified Ordinances requires that homeowners maintain the sidewalks in front of their homes. Residents should consider lending a hand to neighbors who are unable to maintain the sidewalks on their own.

10. Who should I notify if I see a pothole?

11. The sewer (catch basin) in front of my home/business needs to be cleaned. Who should I call?

To request a catch basin be cleaned, you can contact us at the Service Department at 440-442-2626 ext 285. We will then investigate your request and forward it along to the Cuyahoga County Sanitary Department to have the catch basin properly cleaned.

12. I need the sanitary line to my house cleaned. Who should I call?

To request to have your sanitary line cleaned, you will have to contact the Cuyahoga County Sanitary Department at 1-216-443-8201

1. When do the plows hit the streets?

The Service Director monitors local weather forecasting services so that the department is prepared to respond in a timely manner. Also, the Police Department works closely with the Service Department to identify areas that need attention.

2. When will my street be plowed?

This answer is dependent upon weather conditions and specifics of the storm. Major roadways are the primary concern of our Service Department. Side streets are plowed on a regular basis to prevent heavy accumulations and ice build up. Snow plow operations will continue until the streets are passable.

3. Why can't the plow operators avoid pushing snow into my driveway apron?

Plows are designed to unload snow to the side in the most efficient means possible to clear the streets for traffic, drainage, and to provide clearance for future snow removal operations. As a result, snow is discharged to the curb where driveway aprons are located; there is no way to avoid this. If possible, when plowing or shoveling your property, deposit snow to the right of your driveway (when facing the street) to minimize this effect. DO NOT push the snow back into the street or onto a neighboring property. You should advise your snow plow contractor of this as well, as tickets will be issued if any snow from your property is left in the street.

5. Can I park on the street during the winter?

Snow removal can be achieved more efficiently on a road void of parked cars. Cars that remain on the street will be plowed around. This can create a safety hazard once the car is removed. Parking on city streets may be prohibited at the discretion of the Chief of Police during snow removal operations. Observe parking bans or your vehicle may be ticketed.

6. How can I safely share the road with snow plows?

It is best not to pass the plows. Simply let them clear the road in front of you. Also, be sure to maintain a safe distance of at least 200 feet behind a plow to allow for safe braking and for avoiding ice and debris that may be thrown by the plow. Never get in between trucks that are plowing in tandem (2 or more trucks in a row).

7. What can I do to help the snow removal effort?

Observe parking restrictions. Keep a safe distance from snow plows as you travel the roadways. Avoid putting snow on the street and advise your snow plow contractor of the same. Deposit snow cleared from your property to the right of your driveway (as you face the street) to reduce the amount of snow that is thrown back into your apron by city plows. Keep your sidewalks free from snow to assist pedestrians during their travels around town and lend a hand to neighbors who are unable to accomplish this task on their own. Clear a 3-foot diameter around the fire hydrants near your home in order to save valuable time in the event of an emergency.

The street sweeper will make its rounds in the spring to sweep up salt and debris that accumulates over the winter. Remember that there is no spring leaf collection. Leaves should be bagged and placed at the curb for collection on your regular trash collection day.
